DLP - Digital Light Projection. A display solution that uses an optical semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. It is a highly reliable, all-digital display chip that delivers the best picture across a broad range of products, including large screen digital TVs, and projectors for business, home, professional venue and digital cinema (DLP Cinema™).
DVI - Digital Video Interface. DVI is a popular form of video interface technology made to maximize the quality of flat-panel LCD monitors and modern video graphics cards. Flat-panel Display - A very thin display screen used in portable computers and flat-panel TVs. Nearly all modern flat-panel displays use LCD technologies. Most LCD screens are backlit to make them easier to read in bright environments. HDMI - High-Definition Multi-media Interface. HDMI is an industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, and A/V receiver and a compatible digital audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). Tilt - The screen can move forward, tilting towards the floor, or backwards, tilting towards the ceiling. This type of motion is useful for screens mounted fairly high on a wall or above a fireplace. Swivel or Pan - The screen can be turned to face towards the left or right, or around a corner. Perfect for mounting on kitchen cabinets, or in a room where your main seating doesn't face directly towards the TV. Extension - The screen can be pulled out from the wall. This is great when used in combination with the other types of motion optimize viewing distance and angle. CableCARD - CableCARD is the trademarked term for a device that can be inserted into a host (typically a television set) in order to implement proprietary decoding. The role of the card is to control the tuner, filter and process its output, and perform any conditional access and decryption functions. In most cases, a CableCARD is used to watch digital cable programming without the need for an extra set top box from the cable company. HDTV - High-definition Television. A digital TV standard featuring increased visual detail, enhanced sound and widescreen picture. EDTV - Enhanced-definition television. A sharper, superior picture to standard definition video, but lower resolution than HDTV. CRT - Cathode-ray Tube. The vacuum tube TV technology that has been around for decades. LCD - Liquid-crystal Display. Charged, colored crystal-filled cells sandwiched between sheets of glass. Used in flat-screen computer and TV displays. Plasma - TV technology using tiny cells of ionized gas that trigger colored phosphors. Rear projection - A TV that uses LCD, tube-based or DLP light sources that reflect off a mirror onto the TV screen. Front projectors - Video display in which the image is projected from a separate unit in front of a screen like a movie projector. Front projectors usually are mounted on the ceiling. DLP - Digital Light Processing. TV technology that uses a chip containing nearly a million tiny mirrors and a spinning color wheel to display the video image. Resolution - The sharpness of an image or TV display, usually described as horizontal lines (480, 720 or 1080) or horizontal x vertical pixels (1280x720, 1366x728, etc.). Pixel - From "picture element." Dots of color that make up the picture on a TV. The more pixels a TV can display, the sharper and clearer the picture. Thus, a 1366x728 display will be superior to a 1280x720 one. Stand Mount - a free-standing mount that supports and displays flat-panel TVs. Ceiling Mount - a device that enables the hanging of flat-panel TVs or projectors from the ceiling. Wall Mount - a device that enables the mounting of flat-panel televisions on a wall. Universal Mount - a device designed to accommodate most displays on the market Wedge Anchors - 2 ¾" screw and bolt mechanisms used for mounting purposes in solid brick or solid concrete walls. Toggler Bolts - 2 ½" anchoring devices used for hollow concrete block wall mounting. Escutcheon Ring - provide a finished look for mounting applications involving suspended ceilings. Twist Nuts - Provide secure attachment between mounts, adapters and accessories. Nuts with springs tighten from just one side and work well for hard-to-reach installations. Rotation Adapters - enable you to rotate your flat-panel TV for vertical to horizontal viewing alignment. Swing-Out Adapters - articulating arms that allow you to pull your display out from the wall. Stud Adapter - ceiling adapter for single and double studs can be mounted between two studs or long a single stud. Mounting Plates and Brackets - mechanisms that add strength to ceiling and wall installations. VESA - Short for Video Electronics Standards Association, a consortium of video adapter and monitor manufacturers whose goal is to standardize video protocols. |
